HEARSAY: 7th full band studio album

Hearsay

“Simmons has made his share of scruffy-smart folk-country and roots-rock albums, steering his narratives into the Southern Gothic shadows, but his new album, Hearsay, is a quietly bold surprise. Suddenly, there are sentimental strains to his storytelling, suppleness to his phrasing and an elegant, loping fluency to the grooves. ”

Rounder Europe Records released Simmons’ SOMETHING IN BETWEEN album (released in USA in early 2008) to European audiences in the Fall of 2007 and this Festival Performance was part of that tour that took him from The Netherlands, to Belgium and The United Kingdom to promote it’s release. Rounder Europe had released DRINK RING JESUS in the Spring of 2007 as well as re-released Simmons’ LAST CALL (2004 USA release), thus the majority of the songs from this live show are from those first three Simmons’ albums (plus the then unreleased ‘Asheville Girl’ & “Hadley’s Bend’ that later appeared on studio albums GIRLS & THE BIG SHOW).

Simmons is accompanied by sideman, Alex McCollough on pedal steel guitar.
